I’m a big fan of Nashville Hot Chicken so when I saw it popping up on a bunch of fast food menus recently I had to investigate. Technically Nashville Hot Chicken does not have sauce, but rather the chicken is brined and breaded in hot spices and then served over top of Texas Toast with a pickle. Best in Nashville is Hattie B’s, and the best I’ve found in LA is Howlin’ Rays or Al’s Hot Chicken. Watch my taste test now to see the best options from national chains!

The Results

Chick Fil A

This one was a bummer! Chick Fil A has great spicy tenders, but for some reason they decided to make their spicy chicken sandwich grilled which did not hit the spot. It was spicy for the first few bites, but not spicy enough for me. This one won’t be on my go-to list.

Boston Market

This sandwich, the Nashville Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich, had a nice giant piece of chicken breast on a brioche bun. It was more traditional to the Nashville type sandwich with a bit of a rub instead of sauce on it. Definitely a solid pick and something different for Boston Market. I got a full chicken dinner while I was there because… why not. Love the sides like the creamed spinach.

Popeye’s

Compared to the other options I tried, this is for sure the most fast-foody of the bunch. The bun tasted like it was dipped in butter and the whole sandwich came a bit smashed up in the bag, but the flavor of the fried chicken which had a spicy sauce on it was great. I could only eat about half, but enjoyed the cajun fries and a giant soda. If you are looking to indulge and have a big-time cheat meal this is your go-to. For lunch on a regular day? It will put you into an immediate food coma.

Wendy’s (Honorable Mention)

I didn’t even have to taste-test this one because it’s my go-to order at Wendy’s. Perfect just plain with ketchup. Definitely not a traditional Nashville-style, but its a solid pick.
